Near the Atlantic at the feet of one of Iceland’s most beautiful waterfalls Skógafoss, has its beginning the 55 mile trail Laugarvegur. His first episode, which ends with the type of beautiful waterfall is nearly 20 kilometers long and runs along the river Skoga, which in this section offers unforgettable views and 25 waterfalls! The route runs, among others, between two glaciers Eyjafjallajökull and Mýrdalsjökull. Due to the fact that it leads to a fairly short distance from the ocean at more than 1,000 meters, it can always surprise us with bad weather, including snow and heavy rain, which due to the proximity of the ocean and strong winds falls from all sides at the same time. The first episode is not technically difficult, unfortunately beyond June and July, due to the difficult weather conditions it is not possible to further hike because the trail is closed out of season.
Near the waterfall Skogafoss is the village of Vik and beautiful “black beach” with basalt rock overhangs. Place very photogenic, but also dangerous, because the Atlantic at this point is unpredictable.
All these wonders can be found in this gallery.
